Leinenpflege - Pflegehinweise für Leinenerzeugnisse

Our products made of linen are not pre-washed and will shrink in length by about 4-5% after the first wash. The shrinkage is taken into account during cutting, so the finished size is reached only after the first wash.

First wash

In order to achieve a long durability and to prevent shrinkage, we recommend to put your new linen product first in cold water for 24 hours, then wash it as cold as possible, maximum 30° C without fabric softener in gentle cycle, spin it little and pull it well damp into shape.

Further treatment

In case of later washing, the products made of linen in white or natural gray can be boiled in principle, but the optimal washing temperature is 60°C, for colored textiles we recommend a washing temperature of 40°C max.

It is recommended to use a neutral detergent without optical brighteners and bleaching agents for the washing process, otherwise the textiles may turn yellow.

If you want the noble shine on your linen textiles to remain, the use of a fabric softener should be avoided during subsequent washing processes.

Drying and ironing

It is advisable to stretch and shape linen products before drying. Furthermore, wet linen fabric should not be dried in strong sunlight or in a tumble dryer. The problem with a tumble dryer is the uneven shrinkage of all natural fabrics like linen, hemp, etc. So it may well happen that the linen textiles are warped after drying. In addition, "over-drying" of linen fabrics may result in more pronounced shrinkage effects (so-called shrinkage).
